Preseason games are used for many things. They are used to evaluate talent depth, find the outstanding rookie, and for the starters to get a rhythm. In week 3 of the preseason, the so-called dress rehearsal, the starters see a majority of the action. This game is where the coaches plan all three phases of the match. This will be a huge game for the Washington Redskins. There are still some questions marks coming into week 3 of the preseason. Here are three questions that I would like to see answered.

The run game of the Washington Redskins has been the talk of the preseason. In 2015 they were a below average run team. Though they tried to run the ball time after time, they failed. Some say it was the running backs, and many say it was the offensive line. No matter what the issue was, there was a fairly non-existent running game in Washington. With the starting RB, Matt Jones, out with an AC Joint sprain, the Washington Redskins should be able to get a solid look at some depth at RB. We will also see if they have fixed any of the run issues along the offensive line.

Cousins was the hottest QB in the final 10 weeks of the 2015 season. What will be the game plan going into the competition? Will it be a run heavy plan, to see the run game? Will it be a pass-heavy plan to see if the offense is, has its timing and rhythm? Or will it be a balanced plan which is the type of offense you would like to see? In any case, we need to see if Kirk Cousins is ready to tackle the next step at being the franchise guy with the Washington Redskins.

Buffalo+Bills+vs+Washington+Redskins+Live
The Washington Redskins defense has undergone some changes. I would like to see if these changes have been made for the right. They brought in some new pieces in the secondary; S David Bruton and CB Josh Norman. The front seven was unable to stop the run in 2015. Has that been fixed? Will they be able to get pressure on the opposing quarterback or are they going to have to blitz? Having to blitz will leave their CBs on an island and can they handle it. The defense will have a lot of questions to answer to be week one ready. Will we get the answers we want?

The Washington Redskins are the defending NFC East Champions. They are a team, which in 2016, have been given no love in the eyes of the experts. Flying under the radar is fine with this team. If they answer these questions in week three, we should see a strong defense of the 2015 NFC East Championship.

The New England Patriots face the Carolina Panthers in Week 3 of the 2016 NFL preseason. This is the 3rd straight time the two teams meet in the preseason, 9th time overall.

The game starts at 7:30 p.m. at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. If you can’t make it to the game, you can watch it LIVE on 22News.

The Patriots won their first two preseason games against the New Orleans Saints, 34-22, and the Chicago Bears, 23-22, with QB Jimmy Garoppolo starting and getting some much needed preparation for the first four games of the regular season. The Panthers split their first two games, with a loss to the Baltimore Ravens, 22-19, and a victory over the Tennessee Titans, 26-16.

At the end of the 2015 NFL season, both the Patriots and Panthers lost to future hall of famer QB Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, in championship games. The Pats lost in the AFC Conference Championship game, while the Panthers lost on a bigger stage, in Super Bowl 50.

This game is a rematch of Super Bowl XXXVIII, where the Patriots won their second Super Bowl championship in franchise history. The Pats beat the Panthers, 32-29, after a close game and a winning field goal from then New England kicker Adam Vinatieri.

First-round pick and running back Ezekiel Elliott, as well as most of the first-string Dallas Cowboys’ offense, is expected to make his NFL preseason debut against the Seattle Seahawks Thursday night at CenturyLink Field. A hamstring injury kept Elliott out of Dallas’ first two preseason contests, but the 21-year-old rookie will get his first taste of the league against Seattle’s hard-hitting defense.

Elliott will join quarterback Tony Romo and the rest of the Cowboys best offensive players for most of the first half, however, receiver Dez Bryant, who suffered a concussion in practice Monday has been ruled out.

“I try to think of it just like another game,” Elliott told ESPN. “That’s how you want to attack every game. You don’t want to attack one game more than another. You can’t go out and press. That’s when you’re going to make mistakes. Just act like you’ve done it before.”

While the matchup will afford Cowboys fans their first glimpse at the multi-faceted Elliott and will afford Romo more than the five passes he’s attempted thus far in the preseason, rookies and veterans angling for a roster spot are the key attraction for both teams.

With Bryant sitting out, third-year receiver Brice Butler, who’s leading the team with 96 yards and a touchdown off four receptions, might ensure his place on the team with a huge game and rookie quarterback Dak Prescott can also extend his stellar preseason play. The former Mississippi State star has scored six total touchdowns and passed for 338 yards in two games.

Dallas defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli can also see the first real game action from third-round rookie defensive tackle Mailek Collins, who was on the injured list but will fill in for regular starter Tyrone Crawford.

On the other side, Seattle third-round running back C.J. Prosise will also make his debut after a hamstring injury limited him during training camp and the Seahawks first two preseason games.

Dallas+Cowboys+vs+Seattle+Seahawks+Live
“(Prosise) will play,” Carroll told The Seattle Times. “Ready to go with him. He will be limited but we will get him in there and looking forward to just getting him started, getting some snaps. He’ll play throughout, kind of just sprinkled in plays just to see what he can do and this is the first step. . … He looked really good in practice and everything we’ve ever seen of him has looked good. We just haven’t seen very much. He just needs to get going.”

Offensive lineman J’Marcus Webb, who joined the Seahawks on a two-year contract in March after a season with the Oakland Raiders, will also play his first game. Carroll said the tackle could play on both the left and right side.

However, tight end Jimmy Graham remains questionable even though he did participate in first-team drills on Wednesday.

Start Time: 10 p.m. ET (NFL Network will televise the game in progress at 11 p.m. ET)

The Atlanta Falcons will face off against the Miami Dolphins, at Camping World Stadium, for the third preseason game. Last week, the Falcons defeated the Browns 24-13, in Cleveland. Matt Simms was the leading passer for the Falcons. He went 10-of-13 for 136 yards and one touchdown. Newly acquired RB Cyrus Gray carried the ball 18 times for 76 yards. Devin Fuller led the wide receivers with four receptions for 49 yards and one touchdown. Adrian Clayborn and Joey Mbu each had one sack.

The first team offense did much better than in the first preseason game. On their first drive, they marched down the field and scored a touchdown on a Devonta Freeman 19-yard run. The Browns answered with a touchdown drive of their own. Terrelle Pryor beat Desmond Trufant for a touchdown from a 50-yard pass from Robert Griffin III. That would be one of the biggest stories of the night. However on the play, the defense was not set which allowed Pryor to get a head start. RB Brandon Wilds also had a good game with 49 yards on eight carries. Kicker Nick Rose did not have a good game. He missed a 48-yard field goal and the kicks he did make were not convincing. The Falcons ended up releasing Rose on Saturday and signed Shayne Graham as a replacement.

The Miami Dolphins were defeated by the Dallas Cowboys 41-14 in week two of the preseason. Ryan Tannehill was 12-of-20 for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Isaiah Pead was the leading rusher for the Dolphins with 48 yards on four carries. Kenny Stills led the wide receivers with three receptions for 71 yards. The Dallas offense overwhelmed the Miami defense though. Backup QB Dak Prescott went 12-of-15 for 199 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for two scores. RB Alfred Morris ran for 85 yards on thirteen attempts and had one touchdown. The Dolphins will need a better offensive and defensive showing when they face the Atlanta Falcons.

The third preseason game is the most similar to a regular season game. The starters will play the majority of the time and the team will actually game plan for the Dolphins. Atlanta will have Vic Beasley Jr. back for the game against the Dolphins. This will help the defense tremendously, especially with Dwight Freeney on the field at the same time. Kemal Ishmael will be out again this week, which will give Keanu Neal more playing time. Kicker Matt Bryant will once again be out. The Falcons expect him to start practicing again this Sunday. Consequently, Shayne Graham will take over the kicking duties while Bryant is still sidelined. Punter Matt Bosher was injured last week on what may have been an illegal hit, but he will be back for this game though. Running back Terron Ward will also miss this game. Brandon Wilds and Cyrus Gray will take these snaps and will be fighting for the third running back position.

For the Dolphins, DE Cameron Wake is a game-time decision. RB Kenyan Drake returned to practice Tuesday but will not play in Thursday’s game. Second-round draft pick CB Xavien Howard also returned to practice Tuesday. He missed the first three weeks of training camp with a knee injury and will not be available for Thursday’s game either.

The Falcons hope their offense can come out with the same intensity that they had last week. WR Mohamed Sanu will get a chance to prove he was worth his big contract with more playing time this Thursday. Atlanta hopes he can be a viable number two option next to Julio Jones. Defensively, Trufant doesn’t get beaten often, so expect him to play with a chip on his shoulder this week. For the Dolphins, they need to play all-round better football. Their defense cannot afford to give up forty-one points again and their offense will need to put more than fourteen points on the board.

Atlanta+Falcons+vs+Miami+Dolphins+Live
After this game, Atlanta will have a better idea of what their 53-man roster will look like. Many of the younger players are fighting for a spot on the team, however they will have limited playing time this week. Therefore, they will have to really step up and show out. Dan Quinn will also be monitoring the competition for the starting right guard position. Chris Chester is the starter currently, but rookie Wes Schweitzer is challenging him for the spot. Schweitzer has been playing most of the snaps in preseason, but will he be able to unseat veteran Chester? This will be the first preseason game where the defense will be almost fully healthy, so Falcons fans should get a good look at how the starting defense will look this season.

For Miami, Head Coach Adam Gase is hoping WR Kenny Stills can provide new life to their offense. The Dolphins cannot rely solely on WR Jarvis Landry. After having a down year in 2015, Stills needs to play better and become a solid number two receiver. Miami will also expect newly acquired DE Mario Williams to revive the defense. Williams only had five sacks last year, but playing alongside Cameron Wake will help his sack numbers. Miami hopes Williams can return to his 2014 form. Falcon fans can expect another good game with the Falcons coming out on top.

NFL Super Bowl 50 Carolina Panthers vs Denver Broncos 07 February 2016

January 31, 2016 by admin

The Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos meet in Super Bowl 50 on Feb. 7 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. Here are five storylines to keep in mind for the NFL’s championship game:

Will Super Bowl 50 be Peyton Manning’s last game?
Denver quarterback Peyton Manning has won five NFL MVP Awards – two more than any other player. He has the most passing yards and most touchdown passes in NFL history. But he missed six games during regular season and, coupled with a shaky end to the 2014 season, the end seemed at hand for the future Hall of Famer as the 2015 regulars season was closing. However, he returned to rally the Broncos to a victory in the regular-season finale and helped Denver win two playoff games to reach the Super Bowl for the fourth time in his career. Manning, who’ll turn 40 in March, will become the oldest starting quarterback in Super Bowl history. The looming question for after Super Bowl 50 is: Will it be Manning’s last game? No indication has come out of Denver that he has made a decision, although after the AFC Championship Game victory over New England, Manning told Patriots coach Bill Belichick that this could be his “last rodeo.”

Will Cam Newton have even more reasons to celebrate?
Carolina quarterback Cam Newton has had plenty of reasons to celebrate during the NFL’s 2015 season, much to the chagrin of his dance-hating detractors. The Panthers piled up the best record in the league at 15-1, then won a pair of playoff games to reach the Super Bowl for the second time in franchise history. The former Auburn star led the way, topping the NFL with 45 touchdowns – 35 passing and 10 running — and he’s added five more TDs in the playoffs. The Associated Press named Newton the All-Pro quarterback and the Pro Football Writers of America selected him as the MVP of the 2015 season. On Saturday night, during the NFL’s awards ceremony, Newton seems likely to receive the NFL’s official MVP award, which is selected by the AP. It’s been 16 years since the NFL’s Most Valuable Player also played on the Super Bowl-winning team.

Highest-scoring offense meets No. 1 defense
Carolina scored more points than any team in the NFL during the 2015 regular season, then put up 31 and 49 in its two playoff victories. Denver gave up fewer yards than any other team in 2015, then yielded 568 yards and 34 points in its two playoff victories. Is there a mismatch that might give an edge in the strength vs. strength showdown? How about Newton’s favorite target, tight end Greg Olsen, who caught 77 passes for 1,104 yards and seven TDs in 2015. Denver gave up 914 receiving yards to tight ends, 10th most in the NFL in 2015 – a stat not in line with the Broncos’ other defensive ratings. And Denver might be without one of its safeties if Huntsville’s Darian Stewart can’t make it back from a knee injury suffered in the AFC title game.

Will All-Pro Thomas Davis play for Carolina?
The Carolina offense didn’t throw much shade on the Panthers’ defense this season. Carolina finished sixth in scoring defense and total defense this season. But the Panthers’ defense keeps losing players. Carolina won two playoff games without two of its top three cornerbacks and now faces the prospect of playing the Super Bowl without weakside linebacker Thomas Davis. Davis suffered a broken arm in the NFC title game on Jan. 24. He had surgery the next day and has vowed to play against Denver. But if Davis can’t play, the Panthers will be without an All-Pro linebacker.

NFL+Supe+Bowl+50
Can Carolina keep Denver’s defense off Cam Newton?

The Broncos led the NFL with 52 sacks in the regular season, sacked Ben Roethlisberger three times in a playoff victory over Pittsburgh and hit New England’s Tom Brady as he’d never been hit in the AFC title game. Carolina quarterback Cam Newton can be sacked: The Panthers gave up 33 sacks in the regular season. But Newton also can run the football like no other NFL quarterback, and he’s about the same size as Denver’s top two pass rushers – outside linebackers Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware. The team that wins this game within the game between Newton and his protectors and the Broncos’ pass rushers could be the one that wins the big game.

NFL Super Bowl 2016 The 50 Super Bowl

November 27, 2015 by admin

NFL Super Bowl 2016 is the 50th edition of the Super Bowl in American football, and the 46th modern-era National Football League (NFL) championship game, will decide the league champion for the 2015 NFL season.

In a departure from the NFL tradition of using Roman numerals, this game will be marketed in Arabic numerals as “Super Bowl 50” instead of Super Bowl L (the Roman numeral for 50).The game is scheduled to be played on February 7, 2016 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, the home stadium of the San Francisco 49ers.This will be the first Super Bowl held in the San Francisco Bay Area since Super Bowl XIX in January 1985.

It has been dubbed as the Golden Super Bowl[6] because it will be located in the Golden State (California); held in the home stadium of the San Francisco 49ers, a team named after the miners of the California Gold Rush;and because a 50th anniversary is traditionally the “golden anniversary.” CBS will telecast the game in the United States.

The NFL Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL), the highest level of professional football in the United States, culminating a season that begins in the late summer of the previous calendar year. The Super Bowl normally uses Roman numerals to identify each game, rather than the year in which it is held. For example, Super Bowl I was played on January 15, 1967, following the 1966 regular season. The single exception to this rule is Super Bowl 50, which is scheduled to be played on February 7, 2016, following the 2015 regular season.

The game was created as part of a merger agreement between the NFL and its then-rival league, the American Football League (AFL). It was agreed that the two leagues’ champion teams would play in the AFL–NFL World Championship Game until the merger was to officially begin in 1970. After the merger, each league was redesignated as a “conference”, and the game has since been played between the conference champions to determine the NFL’s league champion. Currently, the National Football Conference (NFC) leads the league with 26 wins to 23 wins for the American Football Conference (AFC). The Pittsburgh Steelers hold the record for Super Bowl victories with six.

The day on which the Super Bowl is played, now considered by some an unofficial American national holiday,[1][2] is called “Super Bowl Sunday”. It is the second-largest day for U.S. food consumption, after Thanksgiving Day.[3] In addition, the Super Bowl has frequently been the most-watched American television broadcast of the year; the four most-watched broadcasts in U.S. television history are Super Bowls.[4] In 2015, Super Bowl XLIX became the most-watched American television program in history with an average audience of 114.4 million viewers, the fifth time in six years the game had set a record, starting with the 2010 Super Bowl, which itself had taken over the number-one spot held for 27 years by the final episode of M*A*S*H.[5][6][7] The Super Bowl is also among the most-watched sporting events in the world, almost all audiences being North American, and is second to soccer’s UEFA Champions League final as the most watched annual sporting event worldwide.[8][9]

The NFL restricts the use of its “Super Bowl” trademark; it is frequently called the Big Game or other generic terms by non-sponsoring corporations.[10] Because of the high viewership, commercial airtime during the Super Bowl broadcast is the most expensive of the year, leading to companies regularly developing their most expensive advertisements for this broadcast. As a result, watching and discussing the broadcast’s commercials has become a significant aspect of the event.[11] In addition, popular singers and musicians including Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Whitney Houston have performed during the event’s pre-game and halftime ceremonies.
