The Packers are 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 vs. NFC, 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in Week 13 and 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 games overall. The home team is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings. The Arizona Cardinals have been held to 18 or less points in five of their last six games and three of their last four losses have been decided by double digits. The Green Bay Packers pretty much need to win out to have any chance of sneaking into the playoffs, and they finally finished what was a brutal schedule stretch that included four tough road games. The Arizona Cardinals are 3-6-1 ATS in their last 10 games as a double-digit underdog. The Green Bay Packers have covered six of their last nine games as a double-digit favorite. The Packers aren’t good enough as a team to be throwing out chalk like this, but the Cardinals are that bad. We saw the Cardinals last week turn a 10-point lead into a 45-10 loss. I want no part of the Cardinals. It’s either Packers or pass for me.
The Green Bay Packers placed defensive tackle Mike Daniels and returner/receiver Trevor Davis on injured reserve on Saturday. As expected, they filled those spots with receiver Jake Kumerow and fullback Danny Vitale.
Kumerow, the former star at Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater and the son of former NFL linebacker Eric Kumerow, was one of the sensations of training camp. With a rebuilt receiver corps, he was running ahead of the rookie trio of J’Mon Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown before injuring his shoulder while diving into the end zone to cap an 82-yard touchdown vs. Pittsburgh.
I’ll just try to make plays,” Kumerow said at the time. “Being a receiver, we are playmakers, and if I can do that to help the team, make a big play, get the sideline hyped, get the crowd hyped, make a good catch and get the offense some confidence and the defense pumped up, I think that’s the big thing. Just make a big catch or make a couple in the game and get everybody hyped up.”
The 26-year-old Kumerow (6-4, 209) entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2015 and has not played a regular-season snap.
“He’s a talented guy, and I think of us were wondering if he was going to be back on the field this year,” Rodgers said at the time. “He understands the game, he has a great sense about him. In space, he can get open. He was incredible in training camp earning a spot on the squad. Unfortunately, he’ll learn from diving in the end zone there. But, yeah, it will be nice to get him out there and get him some opportunities.”
Vitale (6-0, 239) gave the Packers a fullback when he joined the practice squad on Oct. 22. He was a sixth-round pick by Tampa Bay in 2016. In 2016 and 2017, he played 24 games (nine starts) with Cleveland, recording seven receptions for 46 yards (6.6 average.) and 13 tackles on special teams. He was waived/injured by the Browns on Sept. 1. An all-Big Ten performer as a “superback” at Northwestern, he caught 135 passes in four seasons.
Davis spent the first nine games of the season on injured reserve with an injured hamstring. He came back against Seattle and averaged 10.3 yards per punt return and had a long kickoff return nullified by a penalty. He returned one punt against Minnesota for 13 yards. Plus, he had two tackles. However, he “felt the hamstring again,” ending his night and his season.
